Jans Muskee‘s large oil pastel drawings often show carefully staged events with ordinary people in everyday settings. In these scenes, the people depicted try to connect in some way, but this never quite succeeds. This gives the works a palpable tension, a friction that makes them particularly believable and emotionally charged. Muskee also creates small paintings in which he makes unexpected connections between everyday objects and situations – seemingly random elements that take on new meaning in arrangement.
