Are there perspectives that we never really learned to read?
That lurk in the mundane,
where something ancient still shimmers beneath the surface?
Maybe they are there.
Maybe they have always been there –
silent, compliant, seemingly innocent.
Bearers of habits, echoes of what was once hard
but now sounds soft … almost as a matter of course.
What happens when we keep looking?
If we don’t understand right away, but don’t look away either?
Is that enough?
There is looking. Thought. Considered.
Not necessarily in that order
At the edge, where something still wonders if it is seen.
Hamid el Kanbouhi
El Kanbouhi advocates collective consciousness as the key to breaking the legacy of violence and domination in our society. Although technological advances enable us to provide everyone with a dignified life, war and conflict persist because of deeply ingrained beliefs and educational patterns that glorify domination. He argues that these beliefs are not fixed in human nature, but are changeable through a revision of our values and pedagogy. If we choose to live together based on respect and responsibility rather than power, we can achieve fundamental change in less than two generations. He wants to remind us that art and creativity never die, but merely lie hidden under the dust, waiting for a breeze of genuine awareness to return to the light.
